I’m a 30-something writer and the founder of People Like Us, a personal development business dedicated to helping girls like you make peace with their quarter life crises. A quarter life crisis peacemaker if you will!
I want to make a positive difference in as many lives as possible. I want to share with you. I want to connect with you. I want to give you the guidance you need to get your life back on track, so you can come through this period ultimately more wisdomous (yes, that is a made up word – but so what?) than you started.
So here’s the deal…
Modern life is tough. 3 in 4 of us experience what is known as a quarter life or early life crisis. I have first hand experience.
My very own quarter life crisis first slapped me in the face around 2004. I’d graduated from Sussex University, finishing with a 2:1 (it should have been a first but I spent most of my third year wasting time on an unsuitable boy) and rushed headlong into a career in Human Resources. One horrible break-up later, I found myself bedless in Argos (yes really); and it was here that I realised I was having a crisis.
I spent the majority of my twenties doing what I thought I should do. Settling. Putting up. Waiting for life to suddenly get better.
Sure, my career was on track. I had great friends. I was studying for my Masters part time.
But at the same time I was up to my eyeballs in debt, dating a string of unsuitable guys, and feeling I should be more promoted and earning more.
I was living disappointed, spending most weekends collapsed on the sofa, recovering from the binge drinking badness of my Friday and Saturday nights.
Life wasn’t living up to my expectations.
Then when I was 26 I lost a school friend – he died quite suddenly shortly before Christmas. It was such a terrible waste of a young life. A couple of hundred of us turned up for his funeral – it had a profound affect on us all.
And it was at that point when I realised; it wasn’t that life wasn’t living up to my expectations. I wasn’t living up to my expectations.
Time to get my shit together.
Four years and a whole tonne of personal development later – I’ve got a lot of stuff figured out. I’m happier. I’m healthier. I know myself better. I’m debt free. I’m a homeowner. I’m a soon-to-be wife. And I’ve quit my glitzy HR career after working with big businesses like Sainsbury’s, Arcadia, White Stuff and Harvey Nichols to invest myself wholeheartedly in supporting other People Like Us through their quarter life crises.
But I did have some help
Along the way, I worked with some amazing coaches including Marianne Cantwell - Chief Chicken at Free Range Humans; John Williams – author of the bestselling book: Screw Work, Let’s Play, and founder of Scanner Central; and Suzy Greaves, founder of the Big Leap Coaching and author of two bestselling books: Making the Big Leap and The Big Peace.
My world was also rocked by Gretchen Rubin, blogger and author of the New York Times #1 best selling book: The Happiness Project, and now I organise London’s only official monthly Happiness Project Meet Ups.
There are sooo many People Like Us out there – the wisdomous ones are already here, and more people are joining the family every day. And I’m reaching out to you pumpkin – I’ve got some wisdom with your name all over it.
